In 2019 we saw continued growth in social media opportunities for brands with new features. Social media marketers were successful tapping into audiences to grab attention. Facebook and Snapchat launched new formats that included augmented reality, while Instagram and Pinterest ramped up shoppable posts capabilities. Here are top features social media marketers should explore in 2020, according to MarketingLand.
Facebook has seen tremendous growth once it added the Groups feature for users to discover more relevant content and engage more easily. Messenger ads have gone undergone a series of upgrades and improvements that will make it more of a valuable channel in 2020. Audiences will be able to see the ads in the Chats tab in their Messenger app and when they tap on an ad they will be sent to a detailed view with a call-to-action.Â
Instagram rolled out Story Ads two years ago and it has been great for the company. Instagram has reported 500 million accounts use Stories and one-third of the most viewed Stories come from businesses so you will see this grow in 2020 as well. Instagram also added a new feature which is the Checkout feature, giving retailers a more seamless way to connect with customers online. This feature allows users to make purchases from the feed and it seems like this feature is going to continue to grow in the upcoming year along with IGTV.Â
Twitter began testing out the feature of hiding tweet replies in an effort to provide users with more control over managing conversations. This feature works well for brands because it gives them control over the context of their engagements, such as removing spam replies. Another new feature that we will see growing is the option to have a list of specific topics that interest you to follow. Twitter said it plans to continue improving Lists in 2020 and for it to become a core component in Twitter.Â
Every year we see Snapchat continue to grow and improve and that is not going to stop 2020. Snapchat has been a leader in augmented reality and has gotten marketers to consider AR in their marketing strategies. In October, Snapchat reported that its daily active users interact with AR features nearly 30 times daily, on average.Â
